The Decennial Exposition of the Sacred Relics of St. Francis Xavier officially commenced on Thursday in Goa, a momentous occasion celebrated with deep reverence and joy. The exposition was inaugurated with a grand Eucharistic Celebration led by Archbishop Anil Couto of New Delhi. This sacred event, organised by the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, invites pilgrims and faithful from near and far to partake in a spiritual journey that will continue until January 5, 2025.
Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão warmly welcomed bishops, priests, government officials, and thousands of pilgrims from Karnataka and Maharashtra. He urged everyone to pray for the profound spiritual benefits this exposition will bring to their lives. In his homily, Archbishop Couto emphasized that this gathering is not merely an event but a “time of grace and renewal,” encouraging all to reflect on the transformative power of faith as exemplified by St. Francis Xavier.
St. Francis Xavier, renowned for his unwavering dedication to spreading the Gospel, serves as a beacon of inspiration. Archbishop Couto reminded the congregation that Xavier’s life was a testament to the call to “proclaim the Kingdom of God.” He highlighted how Xavier’s encounter with Jesus ignited a fervent mission that continues to bear fruit across nations today. The archbishop passionately articulated the essence of the Good News: “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son.” This message encapsulates the hope and love that believers are called to share.
The exposition is marked by a vibrant procession carrying the sacred relics from the Basilica of Bom Jesus to Se Cathedral, accompanied by a human chain formed by 1,500 parish youth. This visual representation of unity and faith was further enhanced by a brass band of 100 musicians, creating an atmosphere filled with reverence and celebration.
As this significant event unfolds over the coming weeks, it stands as a powerful reminder for all to renew their commitment to faith through repentance and living by God’s Word. The sacred relics will be on display daily from 7 AM to 6 PM, inviting countless devotees to experience this unique opportunity for spiritual growth and connection.
In addition to the religious ceremonies, a book titled Stories in Silver: St. Francis Xavier was launched during the event, further enriching the narrative surrounding this beloved saint. With nearly 600 priests concelebrating and numerous dignitaries present, the exposition promises to be a profound experience for all who attend.
This Decennial Exposition is more than just an observance; it is an invitation to each participant to become “the salt that adds flavor to the world” and “the light that leads others,” echoing St. Francis Xavier’s enduring legacy as a messenger of hope and salvation.
