Readings: Acts 3:1-10; Lk 24: 13-35
Today we hear in the first reading the story of Peter and John moving towards the beautiful gate and seeing the beggar and granting him the greatest gift of his life. I am sure this incident raises many questions within us as it is really connected to our daily life. What do we do when we meet beggars in our streets? Sometimes, we do stop and give them something but other times not.
Peter and John gave to the lame man more than just physical healing but the joy of the risen Lord. The man who was healed entered the temple, “walking and jumping and praising God.” How grateful are we to God for the wonderful gifts and blessings we received?
From the gospel, the story of ‘meeting’ on the road to Emmaus has a divine intervention. They were conversing with Jesus and yet not recognizing him. Here, the phrase “open eyes” must be our everyday utterance. How often Jesus appears in our daily activities, but we don’t recognize him?
There are numerous events and people who would remind us of Jesus’ presence in our lives in disguised form. We are so busy in our own world and preoccupied with so many things. This which prevents us from seeing the movements of Christ in our lives. We must learn to feel and recognize each event when our hearts burn from within, and act in accordance with the prompting of the Holy Spirit.
