Readings: Prov 21: 1-6; Lk 8: 19-21
Today’s readings remind us of the importance of true loyalty to God.
In the first reading, we are encouraged to surrender our will to His plan, living with integrity and kindness. We are reminded that God is sovereign and can change the course of our lives. St. Ignatius of Loyola once said, “Teach us to give and not to count the cost.”
This reminds us to stay focused on God, resisting the distractions and evil desires that can lead us astray, and instead live with purpose and commitment to his will. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that true loyalty means placing God above even our closest relationships. He says that those who hear and obey God’s word are his true family. This calls us to prioritize our relationship with God, listening to his word, and seeking his guidance and wisdom.
As St. Teresa of Avila wisely stated, “Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you; all things are passing away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices.” This saying encourages us to put God first in all things, knowing that He provides all we need. As we reflect on our lives, let us ask ourselves: Are we truly loyal to God? Are we putting him first and seeking his wisdom? Remember, true loyalty brings joy and peace.
By surrendering our lives to God and living with purpose, we align ourselves with his divine will. By putting God first, we can experience the fullness of life and live in a way that honours him. May we be inspired to re-evaluate our priorities and deepen our loyalty to God, finding joy, peace, and purpose in our relationship with him.
