Readings: Ex 2:1-15, Mt 11:20-24
In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives instruction to his disciples and says woe to the cities of Chorazin and Bethsaida for refusing to believe in him despite the wonders they had seen him work. Repentance demands a change of heart and way of life. God’s word is life-giving, and it saves us from destruction of soul as well as body.
The gospel challenges us to make a proactive response to God’s presence in our lives. God is doing wonders in our lives every day. Are we aware of all his blessings? Are they helping us to change our lives? Jesus wants us all to repent and submit ourselves to the Sacrament of Confession. Jesus wants us to be cleansed from all of our sins that has been enslaving us for so long.
Nevertheless, Jesus also gave us the freedom of choice to do what we want to do in this world. The first reading powerfully shows that when it comes to truly living out our faith, we must continually recognize that we cannot do it alone. Instead, we must have the courage to allow God to enter into our lives and seek his help.
