Readings: 1Sam 3: 3b-10, 19; 1Cor 6: 13c-15a, 17-20; Jn 1:35-42
Today’s readings invite each one of us to listen to the call of God and follow him. God calls us to follow him every day of our lives. His calls are unique and are through differential ways, events, and people with whom we come in contact in our lives. However, do we recognize God’s voice and respond to his call who speaks to us every day? Many times, we fail to respond to God’s call because we are influenced by worldly pleasures. We fail to recognize his voice because we do not know him much. To know Christ is to spend time in reading, reflecting, and in listening to the word of God in prayer. Can we say like Samuel, “Here I am, speak Lord your servant is listening”?
In the second reading, St. Paul reminds each one of us that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit, the dwelling place of Christ. It is sacred and therefore not to be misused. However, nowadays there are many ways where one can be misused and our bodies can be tampered for pleasure, addictions, distraction and so on. Therefore, St. Paul insists that we keep our body clean and pure to recognize and remember that our bodies are truly joined to the Lord and are members of Christ himself.
Today, Jesus is inviting us to follow him faithfully to know him more, to be with him and to live him in our day-to-day lives. By virtue of our baptism, we are all CALLED: Called to Advertise the Life and Love of Christ to all. This is our call for you and me as followers of Christ. Are we being faithful to it?
