Readings: Mal 1:14-2:2, 8-10; 1Thess 2:7-9, 13; Mt 23:1-12
Today’s readings call us to offer sincere and humble service to God and his people. In the first reading prophet Malachi reminds us that it is God who created us, and he is our father. Therefore, we are to remain faithful to the covenant we have made with God by giving him proper reverence and praise. He reminds us that God desires our best and whole-hearted devotion. Our devotion of God should not limit us only to God but should reflect in our day-to-day activities and interactions with others. The service of God should enable us to reach out to others who are in need.
The same we read in today’s second reading where St. Paul sets an example for us to be sincere and selfless in service of others. He calls us to demonstrate genuine love and care for one another. Therefore, service to God should reflect on our service of neighbours, and our authentic service can become a sincere praise and worship to God.
Today’s gospel message is a reminder to practice what we preach and to approach God and others with a sincere, humble, and genuine heart. Jesus tells us that the greatest service we can give to God and others is to be genuine in our words and actions.
Even if we have qualities and abilities to communicate well, if we are not humble enough and do not become servants, Jesus warns us that we can end up being hypocrites. Therefore, today’s liturgy of the word of God reminds us to approach God and others in service with a sincere, humble, and genuine heart, ensuring that our words and conduct align with the values of the Kingdom of God.
