A humble school in a remote corner of Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh participated in the Earth Day Network India’s Contest to celebrate World Environment Day on 5 June 2019.
The Newman School Neotan, the head office of Newman Educational Society, the educational wing of the Miao Diocese, bordering Myanmar, took part in the Earth Day Network India’s competition together with institutions from 49 other cities across India.
The children conducted the morning assembly on the theme “Air Pollution” and took pledge to keep the school campus and the surrounding clean, to save water, to plant at least 10 trees by each class within the academic year, and to protect the species.
Addressing the morning assembly the school captain Chonja Wangsu expressed happiness over participating in the national event of an international organisation, Earth Day Network, the global advisory committee on environment.
Registering in the online participation of the competition, the tenth graders presented a mime show on the importance of planting trees to have pure air and clean water.
“No act is too small”, said the school captain, “even though located in one of the remote corners of Arunachal Pradesh, if our effort today inspires even one student to take up environmental causes, our effort is successful”.
Indian edition of the Earth Day Network’s contest is held from March 1 to June 30. Bangaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hydrabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumai and Thiruvananthapuram are some of the major cities participating in the event.
