The students of Newman School Neotan, a village school in Changlang District, gathered at Namphai Bazar and performed various dance numbers and beatbox in the middle of the market place to raise fund for the people of Kerala that has been affected by worst flood in the last 100 years.
Expressing solidarity with the people of Kerala, the students with the guidance of the school Cultural Committee, led by Miss Junnem Mossang and Miss Blessy Mossang, gathered at Market place early in the morning at 6.30am, when the market is at the peak of buying and selling, and drew the attention of the people with well choreographed dance numbers.
Having brought the market to a standstill with their performance, the Principal of the School, Fr. Felix Anthony, explained to the people about the devastating flood situation in Kerala and requested everyone to contribute towards helping the people of Kerala. “Your help today will come back to you as a blessing”, he said. “Let us share our little with the people who are in camps without proper food and water for the last two weeks.”
It was very heartening to see the whole market chipping in with small contributions. Some of the parents of the students were so touched by the kind gesture of these young students that they too came forward to go around with the collection box to raise fund, letting the students entertain the bystanders with their beatbox and dance numbers.
The students chose Wednesday for the fundraising at Namphai Bazar as it is the only market day here. They have planned to do similar fundraising events at Miao on Friday, 24 August and at Kharsang on Saturday 26 August, the weekly market days of the two places.
The proceeds of this fundraising by these young students will be forwarded to Seva Kendra Arunachal East that is coordinating the support for Kerala in the eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh.
One hopes that the kind gesture of these students will inspire many to come forward to help the people of Kerala during this most difficult time.
