Readings: Heb 3:7-14; Mk 1: 40-45
In the gospel reading we see Jesus touches and cures the leper for He was moved with compassion. The leper who was told by Jesus not to tell anyone about the cure, ignores Jesus’ instruction and tells everyone. The consequence is Jesus could no longer go freely in public.
Let us have a closer look on this incident. Was leper so excited about cure or maybe he was thinking that he would help Jesus by doing this? But we see by ignoring the instruction of Jesus leper brought tension and disturbance in the ministry of Jesus instead.
The lesson we all can draw from this incident is that any guidance and ‘carefrontation’ we receive from other must be kept and respected. It is not that by keeping them we are not free and hampering our own individual freedom, but to help us choose better ways and help us grow in values. Jesus very well knew that his ministry would bring disturbances, conflicts and eventually cost his very life. Yet, he never stops doing his Father’s will.
Therefore, today we too are called to do the same. In life’s journey we are sure to face many difficulties form within and without. But, we must keep in mind that those challenges and difficulties are not to put us down but to help us realise and make stronger and focus in our journey. So today let us pray, Lord, give me the strength to face all my life’s problems, grant me the strength to persevere in my goal with your grace.
