Readings: 1 Jn 2: 5-2:2; Mt 2: 13-18
Recently we celebrated the birth of our savior and today we hear in the gospel reading about the presentation of our Lord Jesus in the temple as it was required by the law of Moses. Laws help us to experience reality and the truth in our lives. That is why we hear in the gospel reading that when Joseph and Mary presented Jesus in the Temple, Simeon could recognize Jesus’ identity and be able to tell that the child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel and whoever believes Him will be saved.
In the first reading, we hear about the two commandments, the old and new commandments. The old commandment is compared with the word, and this word gives us more instruction to live Christianvalues, and when we live according to the Christian values it helps us to reach a new commandment which is compared with the light and the truth. And Simeon could recognize these both commandments in the person of Jesus because Holy Spirit revealed to him this truth. And he could experience the darkness passing away and the true light is already shining.
Today as we recall the presentation of Child Jesus let us present to the Lord all our sinful thoughts and behavior, and our shortcomings which keep us always in darkness and let us ask the Lord to fill us with His light so that we may live our life according to the Christian values, that is to love God and love our neighbour.
