Readings: Acts 17:15, 22-18; 1 Jn 16: 12-15
In the first reading from Acts, we see Paul’s comments on “To an Unknown God” to the people of Athens after he had spent some time walking around their city looking carefully at their shrines.
God in His goodness and kindness wants us to know Him, and He reveals Himself to us through the church, the Eucharist, scripture, family, friends, creation, through hard times as well as good times. This is how our God is. He takes initiatives for the salvation of us. We in return just need to cooperate with His grace.
Today’s Gospel continues with the discourse of Jesus on the coming of the Holy Spirit after His departure from this world. The apostles are distressed that Jesus is going to leave them, and Jesus knowing that, describes the arrival of the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who will guide and lead them further.
Jesus speaks to his disciples and to us about the pursuit of truth. He refers to the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of truth. He tells us that the Holy Spirit will guide us to all that is truth. How can we be the witnesses of Jesus? For this, first we must be open to the prompting of the Spirit who leads us to know Jesus, who is ever ready to be experienced, loved. So, today let us pray to that Spirit that we may continue to grow in our ability to be active witnesses to the Spirit of truth, love, and mercy.
