Readings: Rev 5:1-12; Lk 19:41-44
Saint John was writing this, especially for early Christian who were puzzled by different teachings, faiths, philosophies and who were suffering greatly under persecution. Many had left Christ; many lost their possessions, and many were threatened with death if they did not apostatize their faith. These sorts of situations tempted early Christians to think that darkness will reign and no hope.
Similarly, we may be also not far from that when we are in difficulty and suffering and easily tempted to forget God’s love and continued guidance.
Saint John had written this to strengthen and encourage the early Christians of his time and age, but His words speak to us also in our time and age, giving us reassurance of our trust and faith in God. John reassures us that God is on our side, He has triumphed over all temptations, His death was not the sign of defeat, but a sign of victory over death.
We see in the gospel reading Jesus weeps over the forthcoming destruction of Jerusalem, showing his disappointment to the action of the people they chose to do, they failed to understand and follow the will of the father. Yes, we too sometimes fail in doing the will of God, we are very much blinded by the cares of the world.
Therefore, today Jesus invites us to be awake, alert and to be engulf by him who give us comfort and keep us secured, for every intention of God towards us is for good, every thought he has for us is for our blessings, prosperity, and our growth towards perfection. Hence, we need to stay connected with God in times of good and worst for in Him every grace and blessing is available for His children. Let us surrender ourselves into His hands and obey Him, knowing that He abandons no one.
