We are on the last day of the season of Advent, when the fulfilment of the promise of God come true through the birth of Jesus Christ.
The second book of Samuel speaks about the covenant that God wanted to establish with the Israelites. God continues to fulfil his covenant with us every moment of our lives. He takes initiative to come and stay with us through different people and incidents by saying, “Would you build me a house to dwell in?” The gospel reading speaks about the hour when Zechariah realized the blessings that God had bestowed in his family.
God has his own time to fulfil his plan which is never early or never late. God knows what is best for us and the right time to fulfil his plan. I feel that it is hard to wait because I seek things that can fetch me immediate results. Even my body and mind are already programmed before the day starts. If there is any change in the programme, I feel uneasy to accept it.
But God never counts how long I take to recognize him and how many times I fail to believe in him after so many works that he has done in my life. Still, he continues to give me chances like in the life of Zechariah. When Zechariah realized the blessings of God in his life and in his family, he praises and thanks God.
This passage raises a personal question to me, ‘Do I acknowledge the opportunities and the blessings that God has given in my life?’ In each and every moment of my life, I need to place my trust in God and become aware of the power that is bestowed on my life and family like in the life of Zechariah.
