The presence of the Holy Spirit is evident in the lives of Christ, Mary, the Church, and in ours too. Today we celebrate the feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mary made a pilgrimage by visiting Elizabeth to assist her.
The Spirit enabled Mary and Elizabeth, and Jesus and John in their mothers’ wombs to make a journey together for the glory of God and the salvation of the world. The greeting of Elizabeth reveals the privilege of lives dedicated to God.
Mary’s proclamation in Magnificat is a revelation of God’s love and mission for those whom he has chosen to fulfill his will. There is a joy in carrying Jesus in our hearts as Mary did in her womb to give good news to Elizabeth.
We are called to be bearers of Jesus’ love, hope, and joy. Our presence should make others feel the warmth of love. Our words need to invoke Christ’s joy in others which was deeply experienced by Elizabeth. Our actions should replicate the generosity of Mary in recognizing others’ need for help and assist them. Let us implore Jesus through Mary for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to be bearers of Christ’s message to others.
