“Blessed are those slaves whom the master finds alert when he comes” is the message Jesus gives us today. He invites us to do our responsibility with wholehearted commitment and be alert for the master. Sometimes we are not aware when we fall into other ways in our life story. We try to act, whether in religious life or secular life, to please our masters.
Maybe we don’t realize we do things when we are being noticed. Today Jesus is asking us to be alert and watchful for the master by doing responsibility faithfully so that we are judged by our commitment and faithfulness. We also need to be worthy to receive our master in showing our faithfulness towards him. When we are found to be committed and watchful he will be more joyful to accept us.
Through this gospel passage, Jesus reveals to us the second coming. As we live our lives we need to be committed, faithful and watchful. Jesus comes into our lives at different moments; but we need to question ourselves whether we will be alert and watchful. Will he find us worthy to serve him? Let us reflect together and try to be faithful as we wait for the Lord.
