Readings: Ex 32: 15-24, 30-45; Mt 13:31-35
In the gospel reading, we see Jesus gives the message through the parable so that the simple disciple will be able to understand the hidden mysteries of his kingdom. The kingdom of heaven is like the mustard seed. We know that the mustard seed is the smallest seed among all. If we take care of the seed and water it, it becomes like a big tree.
Normally the big tree is the place where the birds make their nest. Through baptism, we are called to receive the seed of Christian life. Often, we forget to nurture the seed in us, like the birds nesting in the tree, people can come to us to receive the divine grace from us. The seed which is in everyone’s heart is like our talents, gifts, etc. It is our duty to nurture the seed so that we will be able to bear much fruit rather than complain to God, ‘why did you do this to me?’ Often, we are not making use of these opportunities and so, we are not able to see the graces we have received. We can receive this grace through prayer, sacrament, and faith and with a heart to love.
After all, we need to have humility to cope with the situations. When Jesus looks at us, he should be able to find that we are humble. We should recognize ourselves as sinners, but we should be grateful to God and trust in his kingdom on earth.
