Readings: Ex 14:5-18; Mt 12:38-42
The first reading of the day teaches us about justification and sanctification, in which God is involved, not leaving His people in the place where He finds them but leading them to a new understanding of trust, belief, and faith. The Gospel tells us that the minds of the Pharisees are well-schooled with false beliefs.
They wanted to see if Jesus truly belonged to God or not, by asking Him for a sign. As true believers in Christ, Jesus invites us to recognize and believe in the love that his death and resurrection brought to us as a true sign. Jesus’ love for each of us is the utmost sign.
Believing that Jesus loves us in such a passionate way involves a huge change of mind and heart. When we love others as Jesus loved us, it is a sign that we are in closeness with Jesus.
