Readings: 2 Cor 11: 18, 21-30; Mt 6: 19-23
The readings of the day invite me to see and understand the treasures in my life. In the first reading, we see St. Paul boasting about the trials and difficulties he had to go through in his life in the name of Christ. He considers it as his life’s treasures.
The gospel is inviting each one of us to gather the treasures which the worldly things cannot destroy. What are they? What are those which the physical world cannot destroy? They are the good values like love, happiness, care, etc. They are the sacrifices we make for others. Those treasures may not be look good but will give us inner joy and satisfaction. It is very tough to recognize them as treasures.
Human beings tend to avoid pain and acquire wealth. But the wealth or money may not give us good relationships or friendships. The sacrifices that I make for the sake of others will gift me valuable persons as reward. What I must do is to see those moments with positivity. There can be blocks which will narrow my view and fill with darkness. But those negative blocks of prejudice, greed, low self-esteem etc. have to be pressed down for a better view and to see those values as treasures.
Let the readings help us to be more optimistic, positive, and enthusiastic in our attitudes and life decisions.
