St. Paul reminds us that as stewards and leaders, we should be found trustworthy, which reflects our relationship with God.

In the gospel reading, we are reminded by the parable that we have a new relationship and a new life in Christ. The parables of the new cloth and new wineskins signify that the new teachings and practices Jesus brings cannot simply be added to the old ways of the Pharisees.

The new way of teaching that Jesus introduced is completely different and requires a complete transformation, not just a patching up of old traditions. The new life Jesus offers cannot be contained within the old structures of Judaism. The new wine of the gospel requires new wineskins, symbolizing the need for a new way of living and thinking.

Indeed, today’s gospel reading challenges us, as followers of Christ, to embrace the newness of life that Jesus brings. It calls us to let go of old habits and traditions that may hinder our spiritual growth and to be open to the transformative power of his invitation. He invites us to experience the joy of his presence and to prepare ourselves for the times we feel his absence. So, let us be open to being made new and to receiving his teachings in a new way, even if this comes with its challenges and difficulties.
