Readings: 1 Tim 3: 14-16; Lk 7:31-35
Today both readings speak about balancing faith and reality.
In the first reading, St. Paul instructs young leader Timothy to maintain the purity of faith within the community. Paul speaks of the church as the pillar and foundation of the truth emphasizing the significance of steadfastness in embracing the mysteries of faith. This exhortation coupled with the mystery of the divine incarnation, highlights that our faith is not merely a set of doctrines but a transformative encounter with the divine. This passage invites us to deepen our understanding of faith beyond intellectual comprehension allowing it to transform our actions and character.
In the Gospel reading Jesus makes a comparison between the reactions of the Jewish leaders to John the Baptist and to himself.
People rejected John’s asceticism as well as Jesus’ inclusivity revealing a world that struggles to grasp the multifaceted nature of faith. Jesus words echo across time, urging us to reflect on our own responses to the messages of spirituality. Are we open to the paradoxes of faith, or do we seek to conform them to our preconceived notions? Gospel comes to us with the language of love. We need to be free from our childish ways and open to receive his message of justice and repentance, love and grace, forgiveness, and mercy.
