Family tradition plays a vital role in our words and deeds. What we have inherited reflects in all our undertakings, and that inheritance becomes a part and parcel of our lives, when influenced by a positive lifestyle. We become constructive in our thoughts, words, and deeds. This influence is a natural and gradual one. One can realize this by being aware of his or her life, as does Jesus in today’s gospel.

Jesus knows the Father, who is in heaven. He is also aware of his life on earth and his mission of glorifying the Father through his passion, death, and resurrection. He did everything according to the will of the Father in all his life and mission on earth. That is why, when Philip asked Jesus to show the Father, Jesus said that he was in the Father and the Father was in him. Jesus reveals the Father to humanity.

Through his love and care for the sick, the unprivileged, the oppressed, and the poor, Jesus invites every one of us to follow him in order to know the Father. For Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. And if we are filled with the grace of God, then we will also be ready to follow the way, the truth, and the life of Jesus.
