Readings: Acts 8: 1-8; Jn 6: 35-40
The Gospel passage is challenging me today to be rooted in Christ amidst uncertain conditions in life. What do I thirst and hunger for in life? Often I thirst and hunger for the sensual needs in life: extra comfort, material facilities, first class food, friends circle, fame and success.
I realize that in doing so I dilute the inner longing and deep desire to live in the love of God. Different circumstances and difficulties in life make me go to Jesus. But do I have a strong faith that he would fill up the voids.
In the first reading we read about Philip proclaiming and witnessing to the glory of God amidst persecution and difficulties. The people believed in what he said and did for them. I have heard and read about the love, mercy and forgiveness of Jesus in the Scriptures and through people’s testimony. But what is needed for me is to be rooted in Christ not just by knowing the facts alone but reliving the God experience. And the promising statement of Jesus is comforting me because he would never drive away anyone who has recourse to him in faith.
