Readings: Jer 1: 1, 4-11; Mt 13: 1-9
Today both the readings invite each one of us to pay attention to the word of God and act according to the plan of God.
In the first reading, we see how God has chosen Prophet Jeremiah to be His messenger to people of Israel. God assures the prophet that he was chosen before he was born, and when Jeremiah was in his mother’s womb, he was consecrated and appointed as a prophet to the nations.
God has chosen each one of us like prophet Jeremiah to be his messengers and to preach God’s word to people, and thus bring them closer to God.
In the process of preaching the word of God, we too can face the challenges like Jeremiah did, but we need to remember that God is with us, and he will speak to us always and we need only to obey his words and do his will like prophet Jeremiah.
In the Gospel reading we are told that Jesus preached God’s word to people by using the parables. Jesus’ teaching can be understood by any simple and ordinary person. Because he uses simple stories to preach the God’s word.
Jesus preaches about the parable of the sower. Here the sower is God and seed is God’s word. The seed has got its potential to bear fruit, but it is up to how we take God’s word into our life and how well we can practice them in our daily life.
If we listen and practice every day in our daily living, then we can bear much fruit. We always need to be rooted in Christ to become strong in faith. Then, we can face the difficulties that come on our way. Thus, we can stand strong in Christ to bear fruits in abundance.
