Readings: 3 Jn 5-8; Lk 18:1-8
In our reading from St. John’s third letter, we are reminded of the importance of supporting the servants of the Gospel, as this assistance is vital for spreading the Good News. St. Margaret of Scotland, known for her unwavering faith and commitment to helping others, once said, “It is a great thing to strive to do good.”
This echoes the idea that, while not everyone can be a missionary, our support for those who are is a powerful way to share Christ’s message. In the gospel, the parable of the unscrupulous judge and the persistent widow teaches us about the efficacy of prayer and the importance of perseverance.
Christ reassures us that God hears the prayers of His faithful, even when it seems He may delay in responding. St. Teresa of Ávila beautifully complements this message by stating, “Prayer is an act of love.” Our commitment to pray, support, and uplift those spreading the Gospel demonstrates our love and faith in action.
Let us take to heart the call to support missionary work and the importance of steadfast prayer. By doing so, we contribute to a greater movement of faith and compassion in the world, embodying the spirit of St. Margaret and all those who have dedicated their lives to serving others.
