Readings: Rev 11:19a; 12:1-6a, 10ab; 1Cor 15:20-27; Lk 1:39-56
Today the Catholic Church celebrates the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The liturgy invites us to place our trust in God and praise God. When we face troubles and tribulations in life, we begin to question the existence of God in the world. We have to believe and place our hope in him as he is the ultimate and all-powerful God.
We have a perfect example given in the Bible, where Mother Mary who allowed God to dwell in her, accepted God’s will and praised God amidst her sufferings and painful moments. She always had hope in God and never forgot to praise God, for instance, in the song of Magnificat. We too are invited to place our hope in God and praise God for the gift of life we have received from him.
The readings also invite us to be faithful to our responsibility that we hold in today’s world. Many circumstances arise which may put us down forcing us to become unfaithful in society. In these situations, we should always remember Mother Mary, who never went away from her
responsibility and remained faithful to God and his words.
God entrusted a big responsibility to her, that is to be the mother of Jesus, and she had to undergo lots of suffering and pain and even witness the crucifixion of Jesus. So, we too are called to be faithful to God, and to oneself by fulfilling our responsibilities just as Mother Mary. To be faithful to God, we need his grace and blessings. Let us place our hope in him and be trustworthy of his love.
