Readings: Mal 3:19-20; 2Thes 3:7-12; Lk 21:5-19

Today is the 33rd Sunday in ordinary time. Today’s readings speak clearly about the consequences of following Jesus. It is the advice and reminder for all those who trust in Lord Jesus, that there will be manifold troubles, persecutions and we will be hated by all for his namesake.

Today Jesus gives us the picture of the consequences in following him but also the assurance of his presence with us always. “I will blanket my protection over all who trust in me ” (Ps 5:11). “He who follows me does not walk in darkness” (Jn: 8:12). He commands us that in all this distractions and tribulations we must fix our eyes on him and on his love to us, which surpasses all the love of this world.

Sometimes we face troubles and adversities in life. It is in a way to remind us that we are in exile in this world hence not to place our hope and trust on the things of this world. Therefore, we must establish a strong and unshakable foundation in him rather than place our trust on perishable things and seek human consolation.

Today Jesus Christ shows us the way which leads to the kingdom. All the troubles, persecutions, rejection and disturbances we face in life are the crosses in life. We have to bear them and go through them patiently and willingly which will lead to glory. The whole life of Christ was a martyrdom and bearing the crosses knowingly and willingly through them he achieved victory and glory. Nothing can destroy, harm and make us feel rejected if we make Jesus the center of our lives, around whom our life journey continually must revolve.
