Readings: Gen 18: 1-10; Col 12: 24-28; Lk 10: 38-42
All the three readings of the day invite us to be service minded people. We see in the first reading Abram’s act of service to the three mysterious men, and his service to them was not left unrewarded but blessed. In the second reading St. Paul says that he rejoices in his suffering for people’s sake. He was able to say this because of the self-sacrificing love and service for God and his people.
In the Gospel reading, we see Martha putting her best in serving Jesus and his disciples, and Mary listening to Jesus. We are also called to render Christ-like service which comes out of genuine love and affection. We are invited through our baptism to serve others with a willing and warm heart, no matter what our age or position is.
Our Lord Jesus himself has set an example before us by giving himself in unselfish service to God and his people. He has also taught us to deny ourselves and show love in whatever we do so that we may reach out to others manifesting God’s love.
So let us ask God to help us to use the gifts he has given us for the betterment of our brothers and sisters.
