Readings: Jon 1: 1-2:1-2, 11; Lk 10: 25-37
Readings of the day challenged my heart with several thought-provoking questions. The question that shocked me was, how could I help my neighbor? Today people are badly treated in every walk of life mentally, financially and economically. Those who have more close their doors and only the least have a heart to hear the cry of the neighbor.
In this turmoil the first reading beautifully says how one can become neighbor to others. I Jn 2:9 says, “whoever says I am in the light while hating a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Whoever loves a brother or sister lives in the light.” And those brothers and sisters who live their life radically are good Samaritans and they show to the world how one can become a neighbor to others.
Even a person who watches a mob-lynching in social media and feels pity can become a neighbor. I am firmly convinced that everyone becomes neighbor to another because we are created with the mechanism to love. It also saddens me to think of the times you and I have ignored to lend our hands to neighbors.
