Readings: Pro 21: 1-6, 10-13; Lk 8:19-21
Today’s gospel reading is very brief, but it contains a huge message to all those who are followers of Christ. Jesus in the gospel defines who are his mother and brothers. What Jesus meant is that Mother Mary is the perfect example of doing God’s will.
She not only showed her faith in God by words, but her deeds made her the perfect follower of God. We also can become a part of Jesus’ family by hearing the word of God and acting upon it in our daily life.
Jesus calls us to love every person whom we encounter, even the individuals whom we may not like. Jesus calls us to strengthen ourselves and act in a way that goes against the grain. Yet Jesus our master lived these words each day. Jesus wants us to stand up and be different by radically living the word of God. Jesus exhorts us to develop and nurture the kind of relationship that he enjoys with his Father.
For this we need to go beyond even our blood relationships and live a life according to the word of God. Today we need to be mindful of every person whom we encounter in our ministry places as a mother, brother, and sister. Then we can become a radical follower of Christ.
