The Gospel passage of the day gives us a lesson on observing God’s law in an authentic way. Scribes and Pharisees found fault with Jesus who cured the man with the withered hand on the
Sabbath. Jesus asked, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or evil? to preserve life or to destroy it? Then he healed the man ignoring the traditional practices which discouraged the life promoting activities. Here we come to realize that God’s law should never be used as an excuse for not doing good. We have excuses for not doing good things.
Today we celebrate the feast St. Mother Teresa, who showed her real and genuine love for Christ through her service to the poor and downtrodden. In her life she did not excuse herself from doing her duty rather she committed her life to the poor, the needy and the downtrodden in society. Her life and action for the love of the poor is an example for us to live. We are called to do alleviate the suffering and care for the wounded world that is waiting for our service every day.
Let our eyes see the misery of the poor, our ears hear the cry of the needy, our hearts feel for suffering our hands stretched out in service to everyone around us. Let love be the first criterion in observance of all laws. Today let us ask our Lord to give us the grace to become genuine, inspiring, and exemplary servant leaders and followers of Christ.
