Readings: 2 Tim 1:1-8; Mk 3:31-35
Today’s Gospel reading speaks about the loving relationship, that is according to the will of God. Jesus clearly says that, ‘whoever does the will of God is my brother, sister, and mother.’ Here the reading asks us, ‘am I eligible to stand as a brother/sister of Jesus?’ We get many opportunities to make friendships and relationship with neighbors. Often, we fail to express our love and build relationship with them.
First and foremost, we need to have a loving relationship with God. The love we have for God will be expressed in the way we relate with the others. Jesus does not ask us to do great things, rather do the will of God that is possible in whichever way we can do it daily: at times a little smile makes a relationship strong and sometimes a little criticism breaks the relationship. When we understand others as they are and give appropriate respect and support, we can build good relationships. We see Jesus has given more importance for the spiritual family rather than the earthly family. Jesus shows us the universal family that is very big which relates to the spiritual power in knowing and doing the will of God.
Especially, in the life of the Virgin Mary that is very clear. Often, our pride blinds us to make a brotherly/sisterly relationship in the community, but it is important to live as brothers. For me a brother is the one who corrects and accepts corrections; I believe he is a real brother to me. It is an invitation for each of us to be called a brother/sister of God and live as one.
