Readings: Rom 6:3-11; Mk 16:1-7
We are afraid to talk or reflect about death even though we are certain about it. Everyone expects to have a long life. But that is not the reality; no one knows when life will go from our body and we leave this world for ever. It is known to the one and only God. An inventor knows when his invention is going to expire. For everything that we use there is guarantee, validity and warranty. In same way the creator of this universe knows when all things are to end.
The one thing that will never die in us is our “soul”. One day we will die and the body will go to that same dust and our souls go back to the creator. Tonight, as we are going to renew our faith, before the renewal, let us think about our soul very seriously because we are renewing not for our body but for our soul. And our faith in God makes our soul worthy to be united with the Lord, and allows our soul to live and enjoy the life in eternity with peace.
Today’s readings invite us to put our soul in the right track by dying to sin. In the first reading St. Paul invites us to die to sin and rise to new life in Jesus Christ. In Christ, our body and soul are made valid and guaranteed to live for eternity.
In the Gospel reading St. Mark gives us the testimony that Jesus is truly raised from the dead. On this special day let us rejoice in the Lord that he is not only risen himself from the dead but also raised us from the dead for ever. He, by his resurrection, dispelled the fear of death. Let us allow Christ to raise us to new life. Let us not sink into the same old sinful life to die. Let us die to sin so that we may have joyful life in eternity.
