Readings: Jer 31: 7-9; Heb 5: 1-6; Mk 10: 46-52
In the gospel of the day, the blind man persistently calls out “Son of David” to get Jesus’ attention, even as others try to silence him. He does not care what people think or say. Similarly, those who know the truth are often suppressed by those who fear its consequences, but this is why they must speak out even louder.
As children of God, we are called to have deep faith and trust in Jesus, especially in times of difficulty, hardship, suffering, persecution, fear, and hopelessness. These moments remind us that Jesus is always with us, helping us navigate life’s challenges. Today, the Church, particularly in India, faces numerous trials both internally and externally. Yet, the readings challenge us to maintain faith in Jesus, even in the face of persecution.
When Jesus asked the blind man, “What do you want me to do for you?” his immediate response was, “Lord, let me see again.” His faith led to instant healing. Like the blind man, we too suffer from various ailments—be it injustice, discrimination, oppression, or persecution. Amidst these trials, can we hear the whisper of Jesus? Can we trust in his healing and restoring power? Let us pray that God may bestow upon us the grace of faith and hope, so we may trust in his healing and loving presence in our lives.
