Chumoukedima, Nagaland: The Catholic Schools Games Meet commenced on October 9, bringing together over 1,000 students from 35 Catholic schools across Nagaland in a spirit of competition and camaraderie. Organized by the Commission for Education Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK), this two-day event features competitions in football, volleyball, and basketball.

During the opening ceremony, Father Jacob Charalel, Secretary of CEDOK, remarked, “This is an opportunity for our young athletes to showcase their skills and build teamwork.” The games are hosted at various venues, including St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Chumoukedima, and St. Anthony School, Tenyiphe.

The Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports of the Government of Nagaland, Keoshu Yimkhiung, in his inaugural address emphasized, “The games meet is not just an event; it’s a festival of passion, discipline, teamwork, and respect for one another.” He encouraged students to embrace unity and participate for the joy of the experience.

Vicar General of the Diocese, Father Carolus Neisalhou, invoking blessings for all participants, stated, “May this gathering foster healthy competition and promote a sense of community and fellowship among our youth.”

The excitement is evident, with hundreds of spectators in attendance. A local resident noted, “It’s heartwarming to see the community come together like this.” The Catholic community is actively involved, providing food and volunteer assistance to help the event run smoothly.

CEDOK hopes the meet will bridge Nagaland’s diverse tribal communities. “Through sports, we aim to instill discipline and character in our youth while creating new opportunities for growth,” Father Jacob emphasized.

As the games progress, the spirit of sportsmanship and collaboration is expected to leave a lasting impact on students and the broader community. “We look forward to celebrating not just victories but also the friendships and experiences that will emerge from this event,” noted a participant.
