Readings: Sir 15:15-20; 1Cor 2:6-10; Mt 5:17-37
Today’s first reading clearly mentions and stresses on our own freedom in choosing the kind of life we want to live. There are two ways set before us 1) to remain faithful to God 2) to remain unfaithful to God. Remaining faithful to God means living our life according to the commandments of the Lord and coming closer to him. Remaining unfaithful to God means closing our relationship with God who wants to be in a relationship with us. It is fully up to the freedom of the individual to choose which one to prefer in one’s life.
Second reading talks about the wisdom of God that willed each one of us to understand the ways of God and the secret plans of divine glory awaiting those who remain faithful to God. Gospel reading reminds us that in Jesus new wisdom, new law, and new life is revealed. Jesus came on to the earth to fulfill the law and the prophets.
Though he lived like an ordinary man he was guided by the heavenly wisdom, which helped him to fulfill the law given by the prophets. Jesus in his wisdom gave us a new law of love in order to show us a new kind of living for our betterment and the kingdom of God. So, let us choose to remain with God who longs and waits to receive us into his hands if we lean to him.
