The Indian Catholic church on Saturday formally welcomed Monsignor Javier Domingo Fernández Gonsalez as the First Counsellor to the Apostolic Nunciature in India.
In a releases issued today, Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, SFX, Secretary General, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) extended his welcome on behalf of the Catholic church in India. “We are pleased to inform you that we have received a communication from our Apostolic Nuncio, Most Reverend Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro that Monsignor Javier Domingo Fernández Gonsalez Counsellor, arrived in Delhi on Friday 9th March 2018. I had the joy of meeting him today and welcoming him in the name of the CBCI. We look forward to working with Msgr. Javier. May his Mission in India be filled with God’s Grace,” Bishop Theodore added.
The communication on his India appointment was received by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) from the Apostolic Nunciature in India on January 26 this year. The Holy Father Pope Francis had designated Monsignor Javier Domingo Fernández González as the First Counsellor to the Apostolic Nunciature in India. Prior to this, he served the Apostolic Nunciature in Nigeria.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, on 7 July 1973, Monsignor Javier was ordained a priest and incardinated in the Archdiocese of Caracas, on 21 July 2001. He holds a Doctorate in Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, and a Doctorate in Canon Law from the Ecclesiastical University of “San Dámaso” in Madrid, Spain.
He was assumed into the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1 July 2007 and has served in the Central African Republic and Chad, Spain, and Nigeria. He speaks Spanish, Italian, English and French. “May Mary of Our Lady of Good Counsel intercede for him,” Bishop Theodore added.
