Readings: 1 Cor 1:17-25; Mt 25:1-13
In today’s reading, St. Paul speaks about Christ who is the power and wisdom of God. He says worldly power and wisdom are foolish before God. Therefore, for us as followers of Christ, our power and wisdom are Christ himself.
The gospel of the day presents the parable of the ten virgins. This parable gives a strong warning to make use of every opportunity and to be ever prepared for the coming of the Lord. We have heard about karma theory. The meaning of karma is that our destination is dependent on our good and bad deeds.
If our deeds are seeking God and good deeds, we will have enough oil with us when we meet our Lord. If our deeds are seeking worldly power and bad deeds, we will not have enough oil with us when we meet our Lord.
Therefore, the oils of charity and good works need to be collected and stored for our heavenly journey. Let us be careful in our deeds for our soul so that we will not be surprised by death in sin. Let our work not be corrupted by our self-love and vain
glory. Let us be watchful.
If we find ourselves inclined toward any bad behaviors and relaxing our souls in evil deeds, let us not remain in the same dirt. Let us come back to God in good deeds and make use of every opportunity. Our Lord may come at any time. Let us be prepared to meet him with oils of charity and good works.
