Readings: Rev 11:4-12; Lk 20:27-40
Is there a life after death is a question that we get disturbed. We as Christians believe that there is a life after death. Foundation of this Christian faith is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Resurrection means a new life after death, that is the reason every Christian lives a virtuous life on earth.
We read in the gospel that some Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to Jesus and asked a question about the resurrection. Jesus answered them by quoting scripture where Moses encounters God in the burning bush. There God introduces himself as the God of the living. Jesus tells us that he is God not of the dead but of the living. Jesus in his teachings and parables spoke about resurrection and heaven that all those who live a good life on earth will be taken into heaven and the sinful will be in hell. This clears the doubt that there is a life after death.
In the first reading king Antiochus remembers his sins and wrong deeds which he had done against the people of God. In his last days, he repents on the death bed for his sins. So the readings of the day invite us to confess our wrongdoings to the Lord and seek his forgiveness in order to inherit the kingdom of heaven. Let us prepare ourselves to meet Christ the Judge with purity of heart.
