Readings: 2 Tim 3:10-17; Mk 12:35-37
In the gospel reading, we hear Jesus as the son of David and Lord of David. As a man, he was the descendent of David and was the son of David. As God, he was the Lord of David. Today Jesus is asking me ‘who is Jesus for me?’ What is my understanding? Do I truly know God? Do I love God? Do I go to church to worship God and to celebrate my relationship with God? Or do I simply attend Eucharist as a ritual?
The more time I spend with Jesus, the better will I know him. And knowing Jesus in prayer, more deeply I can love him. I need to spend time with Jesus because when the heart speaks to the heart, the heart listens to the heart. Who revealed to us that Jesus is descendent of David and Lord of David? It is the scripture. In the first reading, we see “All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.”
Knowledge of scripture makes one know God. Just the knowledge of scripture alone is not enough, but proper knowledge of the scripture makes us understand God. It is the Holy Spirit who gives us the proper knowledge of God. Let this day help us to take one more step and deepen our relationship with the Trinitarian God.
