Readings: 1 Cor 15:12-20; Lk 8:1-3
In the first reading, St. Paul stresses the importance of the resurrection of Jesus. He tells the Corinthians that if Christ has not been raised from the dead, then our faith would be meaningless, and our hope for eternal life would be in vain. Paul reaffirms us that Christ has been raised, which means that death has been defeated. This truth is the foundation of our Christian faith, giving us hope and confidence that we, too, will rise with Christ.
As St. Augustine of Hippo said, “We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song.” The gospel reminds us that everyone has a role in God’s plan, no matter how small it might seem. The women who supported Jesus did so quietly, but their support was essential to his mission. We are called to serve in whatever way we can, trusting that God values every act of love and kindness. As St. Teresa of Calcutta wisely noted, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
These readings encourage us to deepen our belief in the resurrection and to live out our faith actively. Whether it’s through helping others, sharing our faith, or staying strong in tough times, we are called to be faithful and courageous like the early disciples and the martyrs who gave everything for Christ.
