Readings: 1 Sam 3: 1-10, 19-20; Mk 1: 29-39
In the first reading of today, we hear the call of Samuel. God called Samuel to be a prophet even before Samuel knew God.
God knows that Samuel will become a prophet one day, a Prophet for the people who speaks the voice of the Lord and who does the work of God. In the Gospel reading of today we see Jesus as a prophet who brings the healing touch of God to the mother-in-law of Peter and many others. It reminds me that I am truly called by God even before I knew him. God has a purpose and plan for me as he had for Samuel and Jesus.
Samuel was able to fulfill God’s purpose and plan for him because he heard the voice of God. Jesus was able to do prophetic mission because he not only accepted the purpose and plan of God but always remained in contact with God through his personal prayer. God has a purpose and plan for us as he had for Samuel and Jesus.
As Christians we would discern the purpose and plan of God for us only when we listen to God. Therefore we are called to cultivate the habit of personal prayer so that we discover the purpose and plan of God for each of us.
