Belgaum: Archbishop of Bengaluru Rev. Dr. Peter Machado who was in Belgaum on Friday inaugurated and blessed the five sorrowful mystery stations that have been erected en route the Miraculous Cross atop Nandgad Hill here. The former bishop of the diocese of Belagavi was on his maiden visit to Nandgad after assuming charge as the Archbishop of Bangalore.
“The miraculous cross at Nandgad is gradually becoming the pilgrimage centre of national and international importance, hence we have commenced to develop the place and a set up a prayer cum retreat (meditation) centre, to serve the pilgrims,” he said adding that this would also help in overall development of Nandgad town.
Archbishop Machado later blessed the renovated Immaculate Conception Church at Nandgad and also offered the sacrament of confirmation to 20 young boys and girls from Nandgad and neighbouring villages. “All of you have grown up now, hence its important to remember that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, hence always be careful while you come across any trials and temptations in life,” he ascertained.
Parish priest Rev Fr Vijay Mendith who thanked Archbishop Machado for his support and guidance urged pilgrims to visit the Miraculous Cross at Nandgad with their sorrows and difficulties and rest assured of the blessings of the Cross.
Administrator of the Diocese of Belagavi Rev. Fr. Eusebio Fernandes, Fr. Lucio Mascarenhas, Fr. Philip Kutty and a large number of priests, nuns part in the religious celebrations. Pilgrims from Belagavi, Goa and Maharashtra were present.
