Readings: Rev 22:1-7; Lk 21:34-36
The readings of the day invite me to reflect upon the theme “Be on Guard”. It is a simple concept but hard to practice. As I was reflecting upon this Gospel, I am reminded of the psychologist Abraham’s words from the book “Let go and live”.
In this book, he gave an interesting response to the question why a few people “leave all” to follow a dream or to pursue a noble goal. He says, “they are afraid to become what they are capable of being.” We marvel at the possibility of achieving our dreams, but we also feel heavy at the thought of the pain that is needed to achieve it. Even as religious who profess vows publicly to serve others, we cling onto so many things.
Yes, dear friends, most of the times we want to live the life of Jesus wholeheartedly. Sometimes we stick to the worldly things. We may fail to give up our comfort zone in order to pray or to help the people around us. As we prepare ourselves to enter the advent season, let us become aware of ourselves and grow closer to Jesus.
