Readings: Holy Saturday and Easter Vigil
Today is Holy Saturday, the third day of the Easter Triduum. Following Catholic tradition, no Mass or Communion occurs immediately after the Good Friday service, continuing until the Easter Vigil night.
In the Apostles’ Creed, we profess that Jesus descended into hell. The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains that Jesus descended to hell as a saviour, proclaiming the Good News to the imprisoned spirits. Holy Saturday serves as a reminder that Jesus will come for us, even to hell, to take us to the house He has prepared in his Father’s house. Commemorating this event, we eagerly await the Easter Vigil Mass, which takes place after sundown. Holy Saturday prepares us for Easter, the day of the Lord’s resurrection.
During the Easter Vigil, we prepare our hearts by proclaiming Christ as the Light of the World and giving thanks to God. During the Liturgy of the Word, we recount the significant deeds of salvation history and renew our baptismal promises. We celebrate the night when Christ rose and conquered death, hoping to rise with him in glory.
