Readings: Is 1: 10-17; Mt 10: 34-11:1
Through today’s gospel, Jesus invites me to give first place to God. What Jesus wants from me is to renounce family attachments and things which block me to love him above all. It is possible that our family members and friends can take the place of God if their thoughts and actions keep me far from doing what God wants me to do.
Jesus shows me by his own life a great example of how to put God the Father in the first place. He loved his Father very much and that made him go through suffering and death on the cross. I ask myself, ‘does the love of Jesus Christ force me to put God first in my life?’
Through this Gospel, Jesus challenges me to introspect. Everyday I take a resolution to show my love to God above everything else in this world. I am also willing to forgo my name and fame, power and position and all things for the sake of Christ. As a fragile human being many times I fail and I fall into the trap of these worldly things like selfishness, pride, power, position, greed, etc.
Through this Gospel Jesus invites me to put God first in my day-to-day life. Therefore, I must sanctify myself and learn to do good. It is not an easy task, but it is possible to embrace a new life in Christ through self-sacrifice.
