Readings: 1 Jn 3: 22 – 4: 6; Mt 4: 12-17, 23-25
The first reading reminds us of the profound relationship we have with God. It emphasizes that whatever we ask of God, we receive because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. This tells us the importance of obedience and living a life that aligns with God’s will.
The gospel reading recounts Jesus’ ministry in Galilee, where he preached the message of repentance and the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus’ teachings and healings attracted great crowds, and his fame spread throughout the region. This reading calls us to recognize the nearness of God’s Kingdom and to respond with repentance and faith. And calls us to embrace every opportunity to draw closer to God and to live out his teachings in our daily lives.
Pope Francis often speaks about the importance of living a life of faith and obedience to God’s will. He reminds us that our relationship with God is central to our existence and that we should strive to please him in all that we do. His teachings encourage us to be humble, compassionate, and committed to serving others, just as Jesus did during his ministry. May we embrace the call to repentance and faith, and may we be inspired to serve others with love and compassion.
