Readings: Isa 22: 19- 23, Rom 11: 33- 36, Mt 16: 13- 20
The Gospel reading invites us to reflect on the theme “who do you say that I am”. This is the crucial question put by Jesus to St. Peter and to all of us following in his footsteps.
Like St. Peter who responded to the question of Jesus by saying that he is the messiah, the son of the living God. All of us too, as Christians we are expected to proclaim openly that Jesus is the messiah just as St. Peter did. We are called to do so through our way of living and through our ministries. We are called to proclaim our faith in Jesus by all means possible.
And for that it requires endurance and pain, especially in our independent India, Where anyone who stands up and speaks for a just cause is silenced, because such proclamation and information is not good to hear. It disturbs the entire system and exposes the negative and faulty parts of the people in power. So, we need to examine ourselves more frequently with this crucial question ‘who do we say that Jesus is for us.’
It is a time for us to enact more accordingly to the teachings of the church and adopt the true identity of Christ in our life. Therefore, we ask the Lord to grant us the true knowledge to know him well and to recognize him with faith and also to help us realize that our mission is to grow into the fullness of Christ by changing our ways of life, so that, we may able to proclaim the good news throughout the world and defend the church against the attacks from the atrocities and unjust people.
