Today the Sadducees make fun of the concept of resurrection. They try to ridicule Jesus with a story that is fictitious and beyond imagination. They pose a legalistic and cynical question based on the law of levirate marriage (Deut 25: 5-10).
Jesus laughs at them saying that they neither understand scriptures, nor the power of God. They seem to think that the life after resurrection is a just continuation of earthly life. They fail to see that God is powerful enough to overcome death and give life. The faith in resurrection is based on the character of the everliving God.
The Sadducees assume that life and relations after the resurrection remain same. That is why they do not have common sense to see that earthly life and the life of resurrection are different and the people after resurrection are like “angels in heaven” and experience the power of God acting in them. They fail to see that in the resurrected life they enjoy uninterrupted communion with God.
