Readings: 1Cor 15: 1-8; Jn 14: 6-14
Today we celebrate the feast of the Apostles Philip and James.
They were martyrs for the sake of the Gospel. From what we know they were zealous missionaries of Christ. They gave witness to the Risen Christ. Today’s first reading tells us about the resurrection of Jesus. St. Paul speaks of the gospel, and gives a summary of it, proving the resurrection of Christ. The fact that Paul wanted to teach and remind the Corinthians about the belief in the resurrection is the foundation of Christian faith.
In the Gospel passage of today we hear Philip is asking Jesus, “Lord show us the Father and that is enough for us.” This particular request brings out the basic human desire to see and to experience God. And the response of Jesus gives a clear idea that he and Father are one and those who see him sees the Father. We do have the opportunity everyday to see the face of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and to experience the presence of God in us. But the question is how serious and zealous are we to experience Jesus and to see God in our lives?
