Readings: Amos 3:1-8,4:11-12; Mt 8:23:27
The first reading from the book of Prophet Amos tells us that the Lord has spoken against the people of Israel because of their sinful life. He reminds them to be attentive to the word of God and follow them faithfully. Prophet Amos gives them tangible examples of God’s blessings as well as God’s wrath upon earth.
Everything happens not by itself but from God. He reminds them that nothing exists by itself. God decides for his purpose, and he chooses to separate the good from the bad. Therefore, he warned them to change their life into righteousness so that they
could save their lives.
In the gospel, the disciples are afraid of the storm despite the presence of Jesus. Jesus confronts his disciples for lack of faith.
The gospel reminds that faith is the foundation of all miracles. A miracle is not the foundation of faith. Jesus appreciates the faith of the foreigner who surpasses his expectations. Therefore,
according to Jesus, faith is the central point of all success. Faith is the starting point of my Christian life. I need not fear anything because God dwells in me.
